Consider this game system an investment

There are people on eBay willing to pay more than $2000 to have a PS3 tomorrow; that's four times the retail price of $500. Of course, eBay isn't helping by restricting auctions of the PS3.

Ok, so I had a dream last night that a relative of mine made the advance purchase.

It's quite silly. And it's a fascinating look at how our society is expected to behave. It's probably a $750 minimum (post-taxes) expense to get a machine designed for entertainment purposes only. I can't call that casual money.

Heck, I'd be worried about taking one of them to college. Talk about an ideal target for theft... easily picked up, easy to sell on Ebay.

Look at it from an inflation perspective, too. The latest-and-greatest certainly isn't getting cheaper. It's what my father says; inflation is happening for those products that appeal to the (upper) middle class.
