(1) It would be interesting to try and adjust the figures in this graph for differences in health status. If, say, Americans are less healthy than average, it might take more spending to achieve the same life expectancy.
(2) It would be interesting to see what this graph would look like if we excluded health care spending during the last six months of life. Some have argued that this is the main reason we spend so much. It would be interesting to see if the data bears that out.
